The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) commenced the 2026 board examinations today, with over 43 lakh students appearing across the country. Examinations are being conducted in a single shift from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, with entry to centres closing sharply at 10 am.
Class 10 Maths Paper Review
On the first day, Class 10 students appeared for Mathematics (Basic) and Mathematics (Standard), while Class 12 students sat for Biotechnology. According to initial student reactions, the Class 10 Mathematics paper featured:
- Lengthy multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
- Concept-based problems
- Tricky questions from the Circles chapter
Several students described the paper as moderately difficult, stating that while most questions were from the prescribed syllabus, time management was challenging due to the length of MCQs.
Over 43 Lakh Students Appear
This year, more than 24 lakh boys and around 19 lakh girls are sitting for the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations combined. The exams mark the beginning of the 2026 board season across thousands of centres nationwide.
Two-Exam Policy Implemented
The 2026 academic year marks the implementation of CBSE’s new two-exam policy for Class 10 students. Under this system:
- All students must appear in the first board examination.
- Students who fail to appear in at least three subjects will be placed in the “Essential Repeat” category.
CBSE Warns Against Rumours
Amid rumours circulating about possible paper leaks, CBSE has strongly advised students, parents, and stakeholders not to be misled. The board reiterated that its examination process is secure, transparent, and monitored closely. Students have been urged to rely only on official notifications.
