CBSE Announces Two-Attempt Board Exams for Class 10 in 2026

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct a webinar on 20 November 2025 at 10 AM to explain the new two-attempt board examination system for Class 10, which is set to begin from the 2025-26 academic year. The session will be open to students, teachers, parents and school officials. The move is part of the board’s wider strategy to align with the National Education Policy 2020 and transform the assessment process into a more student-friendly, flexible and transparent system.

What the New Two-Attempt Board Exam System for Class 10 Entails?

The forthcoming reform will offer students a first board exam session in February–March, followed by an optional second session in May if they wish to improve their marks. Only the higher of the two scores will be reflected on the mark sheet. This system replaces the earlier model of supplementary exams and is intended to provide equal weighting, full-syllabus evaluation and an opportunity for improvement in up to three subjects—such as science, mathematics, social science or languages. For the 2026 board cycle, the timetable for Class 10 and Class 12 has already been published. Both exams will commence on 17 February 2026, according to official listings.

Why the Webinar Matters and What Stakeholders Should Know?

The webinar scheduled by CBSE is a crucial orientation for schools and all stakeholders as they prepare for the new system. It will cover assessment protocols, operational guidelines, student eligibility, institutional responsibilities and how the two-attempt system is to be administered uniformly. Key points to remember:

  • Schools will need to adapt their academic calendar to accommodate two full board sessions.
  • Students must be aware of eligibility rules and the option for improvement.
  • Parents and teachers must coordinate on planning and managing both attempts smoothly.
  • The board has emphasised active participation from all stakeholders to avoid confusion and ensure fairness.
