CBI Arrests Five in CGPSC Recruitment Scam; Officials in Custody

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five individuals in connection with the ongoing Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) recruitment scam linked to the 2020 and 2021 examinations. The arrests were made on 18 September 2025 to uncover a larger conspiracy in candidate selection.

Details of Arrested Officials

The CBI has taken the following individuals into custody:

  • The then Secretary of CGPSC
  • The then Controller of Examination
  • A Deputy Collector, son of the former Secretary
  • Another Deputy Collector, daughter-in-law of the brother of the former Chairman
  • A District Excise Officer, also daughter-in-law of the brother of the former Chairman

The five accused will be presented before court for police remand as the investigation continues.

Background of CGPSC Recruitment Scam

The FIR was registered on 9 July 2024 following notifications issued by the Chhattisgarh government in February and April 2024. The complaint alleged that officials of CGPSC, including the then Chairman and Secretary, misused their positions between 2020 and 2022 to favour relatives in the selection process. According to CBI records:

  • 1,29,206 candidates appeared for the 2021 CGPSC Preliminary Examination
  • 2,548 candidates cleared the prelims
  • 509 candidates qualified for the interview stage
  • 170 candidates were finally selected for various posts

Earlier arrests in the case included the former Chairman, the former Deputy Controller of Examinations, four selected candidates, and one private individual, all currently in judicial custody.

Ongoing Investigation

The CBI stated that the investigation will continue to examine the role of other suspect candidates selected in CGPSC examinations. The agency aims to bring all responsible individuals involved in the scam to justice.
