67% Engineers Say Roles Evolving with AI; 85% Plan to Upskill in FY26

A latest survey by Great Learning has revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) is significantly reshaping the engineering profession in India. According to the findings, 67% of engineers believe their roles are evolving with AI adoption, while 85% are planning to upskill in FY26 to remain competitive.

AI and ML Lead the Upskilling Trend

The study highlights that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are the most preferred domains for skill development, followed by Data Science, Analytics, Software Development, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity. Within AI & ML, Generative AI and Agentic AI have emerged as the most in-demand skills, supported by strong demand for Python programming and Natural Language Processing (NLP).

Motivations for Upskilling

The survey outlined the major reasons behind the surge in upskilling:

  • 20% cited financial growth
  • 12% aimed at promotions
  • 12% looked for new opportunities
  • 11% wanted to avoid skill obsolescence

These figures reflect how career advancement remains the prime motivator for engineers adapting to rapid technological changes.
