XAT 2026 MBA/PGDM Entrance Exam: Timings, Pattern, Guidelines

The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2026 is being conducted today by XLRI Jamshedpur for admission to MBA and PGDM programmes. Aspirants appearing for the test are advised to be aware of the exam timing, paper pattern, marking scheme and essential guidelines for a smooth test‑day experience. The national‑level XAT 2026 is scheduled on 4 January 2026 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in computer‑based test (CBT) mode at multiple centres across India.

XAT 2026 Exam Timing and Things to Carry

Candidates must report to the examination centre well ahead of the reporting time to complete all entry formalities. Those appearing for XAT 2026 must carry their printed hall ticket (admit card) along with a government‑issued photo identity proof for verification at the centre. The test authority has emphasised that entry will not be allowed without these documents. Candidates are also advised to reach the centre early to avoid last‑minute hassles.

XAT 2026 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The XAT 2026 exam pattern includes multiple sections designed to assess a candidate’s aptitude across key areas. The test is typically conducted in English as a computer‑based test with a total time duration of around 180 minutes (3 hours).

The structure includes the following main sections:

  • Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (VA & LR)
  • Decision Making (DM)
  • Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (QA & DI)
  • General Knowledge (GK)

There is no sectional time limit, allowing candidates to attempt questions from any section in any order within the total duration. The marking scheme for XAT 2026 typically awards +1 mark for each correct answer and deducts –0.25 marks for each incorrect attempt. Additionally, a penalty of –0.10 marks may be applied if more than eight questions are left unanswered. There is no negative marking in the GK section.

Important XAT Exam Day Guidelines for Candidates

To ensure a smooth experience on the day of the entrance exam, candidates must follow important instructions issued by XLRI Jamshedpur. These include:

  • Carry and present the required documents, such as the XAT admit card and a valid ID, at the centre gates.
  • Arrive at the centre well before the reporting time to complete verification and seating formalities.
  • Electronic devices, calculators, and unauthorised materials are not permitted inside the exam hall.

Candidates should also carefully follow invigilator's instructions and follow the prescribed seating order once inside the test venue.
