What is GATE Registration Fees for 2027?

IIT Madras has commenced the GATE 2027 registration process today, August 27, 2026. Candidates applying for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 can submit the application form through the official GOAPS portal. The regular registration window will remain open until September 27, 2026, while candidates who miss the regular deadline can apply with a late fee until October 5, 2026.

The application fee varies according to the candidate's category and whether the application is submitted during the regular or extended registration period. Candidates opting for two GATE 2027 test papers will have to pay twice the applicable fee.

GATE 2027 Late Fee

Candidates who fail to submit their GATE 2027 application during the regular registration period can apply during the extended window by paying an additional late fee.

The regular registration deadline is September 27, 2026, while the extended registration period with late fee will be available from September 28 to October 5, 2026.

Therefore, the fee payable during the extended period will be:

• INR 1,500 per paper for Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates
• INR 2,500 per paper for all other candidates, including foreign nationals

For candidates appearing in two papers, the applicable amount will be charged separately for each paper.

GATE 2027 Registration Fee for Two Papers

Candidates who want to appear for two GATE 2027 papers must select an eligible two-paper combination specified by IIT Madras.

For example, under the regular registration period:

• Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates: INR 2,000 for two papers
• Other candidates: INR 4,000 for two papers

During the extended registration period:

• Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates: INR 3,000 for two papers
• Other candidates: INR 5,000 for two papers

Only the two-paper combinations permitted by IIT Madras can be selected during the registration process.

If the amount is deducted but the payment acknowledgement is not received, candidates should log in to the GATE 2027 application portal and check the payment status before making another payment. IIT Madras states that if the payment was unsuccessful but the amount was debited, the amount will be credited back to the candidate's account, although the refund may take around 15 working days.
