Utkal University MTech CS Admission via OJEE from 2026-27

The Odisha government has announced that admissions to the MTech (Computer Science) programme at Utkal University will be conducted through OJEE from the 2026–27 academic session. The move replaces the earlier consideration of including the course under CPET.

Utkal University MTech CS Admission 2026-27: Key Decision

The Skill Development and Technical Education (SDTE) department has directed the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) committee to include the MTech (Computer Science) programme in its admission process. This decision comes after the Higher Education department declined to bring the programme under the Common PG Entrance Test (CPET) for the current cycle. As a result, admissions will now be streamlined through OJEE starting from the 2026–27 academic session. The change is expected to ensure a more structured and transparent admission process for postgraduate technical courses in the state.

Programme Resumed After Three-Year Gap

The MTech (Computer Science) course at Utkal University had remained suspended for nearly three years before being reintroduced in the 2025–26 academic session. Following its revival, the university offered:

• Total intake capacity: 30 seats
• Programme run under self-financing mode
• Managed by the Department of Computer Science and Applications

Since both CPET and OJEE 2025 admission cycles had already concluded, the university conducted admissions independently for that year.

OJEE 2026 to Handle MTech Admissions

From 2026 onwards, candidates seeking admission to the programme will need to appear for OJEE 2026, which is the state-level entrance exam for professional courses. OJEE is responsible for admissions into multiple undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across Odisha institutions. Key details regarding OJEE 2026 are as follows:

• Application deadline: 29 March 2026
• Exam dates: Between 4 May 2026 and 9 May 2026
• Mode: Computer-based test

Candidates qualifying through OJEE will be considered for counselling and seat allocation in participating institutions, including Utkal University.

Impact on Admission Process and Students

The shift to OJEE is expected to bring uniformity in admission procedures for technical postgraduate courses across Odisha. The following changes are anticipated:

• Centralised merit-based admission through OJEE rank
• Standardised counselling process across institutions
• Improved transparency and seat allocation efficiency

For students, this means a single entrance examination pathway instead of multiple admission routes, simplifying the application process.
