UPSC postponed CSE 2026 notification; Prelims on 24 May 2026 and Mains on 21 August 2026

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the release of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 notification, which was originally expected in mid-January 2026. The official notification, including detailed eligibility criteria, vacancies, and application dates, will now be issued in due course on the UPSC website. Despite the delay in the notification release, the UPSC Exam Calendar 2026 remains in force, with key dates already scheduled for the Civil Services Examination cycle.

UPSC CSE 2026 Prelims and Mains Schedule

According to the official 2026 exam calendar:

• The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination is scheduled for 24 May 2026 (Sunday). Aspirants will sit for a two-paper objective test that also serves as a screening test for the Indian Forest Service (IFS) Preliminary phase.
• Candidates who qualify Prelims will be eligible for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, which is set to begin on 21 August 2026. The Mains phase consists of nine papers including essays, general studies and optional subjects followed by personality tests.

Precise deadlines for online application submission will be communicated with the release of the notification. Traditionally, the UPSC allows several weeks from notification release to the closing date for applications.

What to Expect in the Official Notice?
