The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) has strengthened its standing in the NIRF 2025 rankings, showing improvement across several categories. The university now holds the 43rd position in Engineering and the 45th position in the University category, with remarkable progress in Law and Management rankings.
UPES Shines in NIRF 2025 Across Categories
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released its 2025 rankings across 17 categories, including the newly introduced Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) category. UPES performed strongly in four categories:
- Law: 18th position (up from 28th in 2024)
- Management: 36th position (improved from 41st in 2024)
- Engineering: 43rd position
- University Category: 45th position
The consistent rise in rankings highlights UPES’s focus on academic excellence, research output, and student success.

- Research Strength: Currently, 292 full-time and 231 part-time PhD students are enrolled.

- Total 6,453 students (4,937 male and 1,516 female) are pursuing B.Tech programmes.
- Out of 1,272 graduates in 2023-24, 1,158 students were placed, with a median package of ₹6.5 lakh.
- Around 5,100 engineering students belong to states outside Uttarakhand.
