UPMSP has introduced a step marking system for UP Board Class 10 and 12 exams 2026. The new evaluation method will award partial marks for correct steps in subjects like Mathematics and Science. Answer sheet evaluation will begin on 18 March 2026 and continue until 01 April 2026.
UP Board Exam 2026 answer sheet evaluation will follow a new step marking system introduced by the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad. The new method will be applied to UP Board Class 10 and Class 12 examinations to make the evaluation process more transparent and student-friendly.
Under the revised marking scheme, students will receive partial marks for correct steps and methods, even if the final answer is incorrect. The change will mainly apply to subjects that involve calculations and step-based solutions.
What Step Marking Means in UP Board Exams 2026
Step marking ensures that examiners evaluate the entire process of solving a question, rather than only checking the final answer. This method recognises students’ understanding of concepts and logical steps used in problem solving.
For instance, if a question carries five marks and a student writes the correct formula and follows the proper solving method but makes a mistake in the final calculation, the examiner will still award partial marks for the correct steps.
This evaluation approach is already used in several education boards and competitive examinations, as it helps reward conceptual clarity rather than focusing solely on the final answer.
Subjects Where Step Marking Will Apply in UP Board 2026
The step-based evaluation system will be implemented mainly in subjects that involve calculations or logical procedures. These subjects require students to show multiple steps before arriving at the final answer.
|
Subject |
How Step Marking Helps |
|
Mathematics |
Marks given for correct formulas, steps, and calculations |
|
Physics |

|
Chemistry |
Partial marks for equations, formulas, and steps |
|
Accountancy |

|
Other Numerical Subjects |
Marks given for logical approach and procedure |
The system aims to reduce the impact of minor calculation mistakes and recognise the effort made in solving complex problems.
UP Board Answer Sheet Evaluation 2026 Schedule
The evaluation of answer sheets for the 2026 examinations will begin soon after the completion of the board exams. The board has already prepared evaluation centres and appointed teachers for the process.
