The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has announced that candidates caught using unfair means during the UP Board 2026 Class 10 and Class 12 examinations will face academic punishment, including cancellation of answer sheets or disqualification, without filing criminal cases under current guidelines. UPMSP’s move aims to uphold exam integrity while also protecting students from severe legal consequences under the Public Examinations Act, balancing deterrence with educational fairness.
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has issued an official notification regarding how students caught cheating during the 2026 board exams for Class 10 and Class 12 will be dealt with. According to the update, students found engaging in unfair practices will not be subject to criminal prosecution, but will nonetheless face strict academic repercussions. This announcement comes as the UP Board Class 10 and 12 exams are underway, with tests scheduled between 18 February and 12 March 2026 in two shifts daily across the state.
UP Board 2026: No FIR, But Strong Academic Action
Under the current guidelines from UPMSP:
- No criminal FIRs will be filed against students identified for cheating during the exams.
- Students caught using unfair means, such as carrying prohibited materials or copying from others, will face academic penalties.
- These penalties could include cancellation of answer sheets, disqualification from the current examination, or temporary debarment from future board exams, as per board policies.
UPMSP clarified this approach to encourage fairness in evaluation while also considering the academic futures of candidates, particularly minors appearing in these compulsory school examinations.
UP Board 2026 Context: Examination Integrity Measures
In recent days, the UP Board has also implemented several exam integrity measures for 2026, including tighter security protocols at centres, CCTV monitoring, and enhanced answer sheet security features to prevent malpractice. Additionally, under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, broader safeguards exist for public examinations, with penalties for organised unfair practices, though young board examinees are shielded from criminal charges in most cases. The board’s position reflects a balance between deterring cheating and protecting students’ academic prospects while maintaining transparent and fair conduct in one of India’s largest state school examination systems.
