The University of Wollongong India (UOW India) has launched the Kalyani Brahmbhatt Memorial Merit Scholarship to expand access to higher education for meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This initiative, named in memory of Ms Kalyani Brahmbhatt, a valued member of UOW India’s core team who tragically passed away in an aviation accident, reflects the university’s commitment to inclusive academic opportunities.
Scholarship Details and Benefits
The Kalyani Brahmbhatt Memorial Merit Scholarship will award one eligible student from each of UOW India’s partner institutions with a 60% tuition fee waiver for each year of study, subject to meeting defined merit and continuation criteria. The scholarship is applicable to full‑time undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes offered at the UOW India GIFT City campus.Selected students will receive the scholarship annually, contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic performance throughout their course. This financial support aims to reduce economic barriers and enable talented learners to pursue quality higher education in a globally benchmarked environment.
Eligibility and Selection Process
The scholarship is targeted at high‑potential students with strong academic records, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds who may otherwise find advanced education financially challenging. Selection will be conducted through the university’s partner institutions, with merit and ongoing performance determining continuation of the award. UOW India emphasised that the scholarship aligns with its broader vision of fostering academic integrity, opportunity, and long‑term personal growth among its student community. The initiative also honours Ms Brahmbhatt’s belief in education as a powerful vehicle for personal and professional transformation.
Institutional Focus on Inclusive Education
The introduction of the Kalyani Brahmbhatt Memorial Merit Scholarship underscores UOW India’s commitment to inclusive and globally relevant education in India. By easing financial burdens for deserving students, the university aims to cultivate a diverse talent base capable of contributing meaningfully to society and the global workforce. This initiative complements other scholarship and merit support mechanisms offered by UOW India to encourage academic excellence and opportunity irrespective of economic background. Partner institutions and prospective applicants are encouraged to review eligibility guidelines and application timelines as announced by UOW India, ensuring timely participation in the scholarship selection process.
