The UGC NET December session exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on 3 January 2026 witnessed candidates appear in two shifts for the Day 3 schedule across multiple subjects. The analysis based on student responses and expert review suggests that the exam ranged from easy to moderate difficulty, with a balanced distribution of questions in both Paper 1 and Paper 2. A large number of aspirants appeared for the UGC NET conducted nationwide for eligibility to teach and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) positions, with the exam being held in two shifts Shift 1 from 9 AM to 12 PM and Shift 2 from 3 PM to 6 PM.

UGC NET January 3 Shift 1 Difficulty and Insights

In Shift 1, Paper 1 and Paper 2 were aimed at assessing core teaching and subject-specific knowledge. Candidates reported that most sections were easy to moderate, with well-defined conceptual questions and scoring areas:

  • Paper 1 segments such as Teaching Aptitude, Reading Comprehension and Communication were generally rated easy to moderate with direct, syllabus-aligned questions.
  • Reasoning, Data Interpretation and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) questions were also manageable for well-prepared candidates.
  • Paper 2 subjects including Commerce, Sanskrit, Santali, Disaster Management and Museology & Conservation were perceived as moderate overall with a few analytical questions requiring deeper understanding.

Exam review suggests that candidates who maintained focus on fundamental concepts and recent practice questions were able to score well.

UGC NET January 3 Shift 2 Review
