UGC Issues Notice to 37 Private Universities for Public Disclosure

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 37 private universities across India that have failed to comply with mandatory public disclosure norms. These institutions have not uploaded essential information under Section 13 or other statutory requirements, including courses, faculty, infrastructure, and fee details. The UGC notice highlights that despite repeated reminders via emails, formal notices, and meetings, these universities have not rectified the lapses. Under the commission’s regulations, all universities are required to provide comprehensive, easily accessible information on their websites without any login or registration

UGC Compliance Requirements

  • Universities must display courses, fee structures, faculty details, governance, and infrastructure information on their homepage.
  • Information should be accessible without login and should have easy navigation.
  • Non-compliance may lead to penal action by UGC if not resolved within the stipulated deadline.

The UGC has given the universities a two-week deadline to correct the lapses. Any failure to comply after this period will result in formal action against the institutions, potentially affecting their recognition and operations.
