Detailed review of question types and patterns is emerging based on candidate feedback.

UCEED 2026 Exam Analysis: Difficulty Level & Question Paper Insights

The UCEED 2026 entrance exam for admission into Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programmes was held on 18 January 2026 at various centres across India. Organised by IIT Bombay, the three-hour offline test evaluated applicants on analytical, logical and creative design abilities.

Question Paper Structure and Marking Scheme

The exam comprised two distinct parts:

  • Part A (Objective) — Included 57 questions spanning:
    • Numerical Answer Type (NAT): 14 questions
    • Multiple Select Questions (MSQ): 15 questions
    • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): 28 questions
  • Part B (Creative Sketching & Design) — 2 questions focused on visualisation and design aptitude.

Candidates were assessed on a 300-mark scale, with Part A contributing 200 marks and Part B contributing 100 marks. The marking scheme allowed partial marking and negative marking in parts of Part A, reflecting varied scoring across question types.

Difficulty Level: Section-Wise Insights

Early reactions and preliminary analysis suggest the overall UCEED 2026 paper difficulty ranged from moderate to difficult:

  • NAT section: Moderate challenges in calculation and reasoning.
  • MSQs: Moderate to difficult due to multiple correct options and partial scoring dynamics.
  • MCQs: Generally easy to moderate, requiring reasoning and observational skills.
  • Part B: Moderately difficult, demanding strong sketching technique and design thinking.

Students and experts noted that time management played a key role, especially in Part A where problem-solving under time pressure was critical, while Part B highlighted creative clarity and idea expression.

Candidate Response and Next Steps

Candidates exiting the exam and early analysers reported mixed reactions, with the majority classifying the test as balanced yet challenging — particularly for sections demanding deeper analytical or creative skills. Detailed student feedback, topic-wise difficulty breakdown, and expected good attempts will become clearer as more responses are collected. Following the exam, UCEED authorities are expected to release the draft Part A answer key soon, which will enable candidates to cross-verify their answers and estimate probable scores ahead of the final result announcement. A comprehensive analysis report, including expected cut-offs and ideal scoring strategies, will be published as further insights flow in from student reviews and expert evaluations.
