TNPSC Postpones Group 2, 2A Mains Exam After Centre Glitch Statewide

TNPSC postpones Group 2 and Group 2A mains examination scheduled on 08 February 2026 following a technical error in the allocation of exam centres. The decision was taken after widespread complaints from candidates and protests at several examination venues. A revised date will be announced soon.

TNPSC Group 2, 2A Mains Exam Postponed Due to Technical Issues

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission cancelled the Group 2 and Group 2A mains examinations on the day of the test after a software-related glitch disrupted centre allotment. The issue reportedly affected more than 9,000 candidates who were scheduled to appear for the descriptive mains examination across the state.

Candidates raised complaints regarding incorrect centre allocation, missing registration numbers, and overcrowding at multiple exam venues. The situation was particularly tense at centres in Chennai, where confusion over hall ticket details led to delays and protests.

Chennai Centres Witness Confusion and Protests

At examination centres in Arumbakkam and Nandanam, several candidates reported that their registration numbers were either missing or mapped to different venues. In some cases, candidates were informed that their details were available at another centre and were asked to relocate at short notice.

The last-minute changes triggered protests, with candidates stating that shifting centres on the exam day made it impossible to appear for the test. The situation led to traffic disruptions and administrative challenges around the affected centres.

TNPSC Extends Postponement Statewide

Initially, TNPSC announced the postponement of the Group 2 and Group 2A mains examination only in Chennai. However, after similar reports emerged from other locations, the commission decided to postpone the examination across Tamil Nadu.

TNPSC officials later confirmed that the disruption was caused by a software-related technical error. In one instance, nearly 1,000 candidates arrived at a centre prepared for only 300 candidates, highlighting the scale of the issue.

Official Communication and Next Steps

An official notice issued on 08 February 2026 stated that candidates who had downloaded their hall tickets and reported to the centres would be informed about the revised examination schedule via SMS and email. TNPSC assured that further instructions regarding the rescheduled mains examination would be communicated shortly.

The Group 2 and Group 2A recruitment drive aims to fill 828 vacancies across various state government departments. The mains examination is a crucial stage of the selection process and is conducted in a descriptive format following the preliminary examination.

Candidates have urged TNPSC to ensure improved technical checks and coordination before announcing the new exam date, as many had travelled long distances and made prior arrangements to appear for the examination.
