Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology and Bajaj Auto have signed an MoU to establish a ₹15 crore Bajaj Engineering Skill Training Centre at the institute’s Patiala campus. The centre will offer practical training in mechatronics, robotics, automation, Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing.

Thapar Institute Bajaj Auto Engineering Skill Centre, ₹15 Crore Investment

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) has partnered with Bajaj Auto to establish a Bajaj Engineering Skill Training (BEST) Centre on its Patiala campus.

The engineering skill centre will receive ₹15 crore in CSR support from Bajaj Auto and will focus on emerging technologies such as robotics, automation, Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing.

Thapar Institute-Bajaj Auto Engineering Skill Centre: Key Details

The partnership is aimed at strengthening industry-academia collaboration and giving engineering students practical exposure to technologies used in modern manufacturing.

The major details of the Thapar Institute and Bajaj Auto partnership are given below:

Bajaj Auto to Provide ₹15 Crore CSR Support

Bajaj Auto will provide ₹15 crore through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund for setting up the engineering skill centre at TIET.

The MoU between the two organisations was signed by TIET Vice Chancellor Padmakumar Nair. TIET President Gautam Thapar, Chancellor R.R. Vederah, Pro Vice-Chancellor Ajay Batish and representatives from Bajaj Auto were also present during the signing.

The BEST Centre is part of Bajaj Auto's broader initiative to equip engineering students with contemporary and industry-relevant technical skills.

20,000 Sq Ft Lab Space to Be Developed

Thapar Institute will dedicate 20,000 sq. ft. of laboratory space for the first two verticals of the BEST programme.

The centre will focus on areas that are becoming increasingly important in engineering and manufacturing.

Key areas include:

  • Mechatronics
  • Robotics and Automation
  • Industry 4.0
  • Smart Manufacturing
  • Advanced engineering infrastructure
  • Practical technical training

The facility is expected to give students access to infrastructure that supports hands-on learning instead of relying only on classroom-based theoretical education.

BEST Centre to Be Integrated With Engineering Programmes

The Bajaj Engineering Skill Training Centre will be integrated into selected engineering programmes offered by Thapar Institute.

The programmes include:

  • B.E. Mechanical Engineering
  • B.E. Mechatronics
  • B.E. Robotics and AI

Students enrolled in these programmes will receive practical exposure through the new infrastructure and training modules.

The curriculum will be designed with inputs from senior engineers at Bajaj Auto. Students completing the programme will also receive joint certification from Thapar Institute and Bajaj Auto.

Industry-Academia Collaboration to Focus on Future Skills

The partnership comes at a time when engineering education is increasingly focusing on practical skills and industry requirements.

Technologies such as robotics, automation, smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 are changing manufacturing processes. The BEST Centre is intended to help students understand these technologies through practical training.

For TIET, the collaboration also strengthens its engagement with industry and creates an opportunity to align engineering education with changing workplace requirements.

What Is Bajaj Engineering Skill Training (BEST)?

Bajaj Engineering Skill Training, or BEST, is a CSR initiative of Bajaj Auto focused on engineering skill development.

The initiative aims to provide students with exposure to contemporary technologies and practical engineering applications.

Through partnerships with educational institutions, Bajaj Auto is supporting the development of training infrastructure and industry-aligned programmes for engineering students.

Why Is the Thapar-Bajaj Auto Partnership Important for Students?

The new engineering skill centre could benefit students in several ways:

  • Practical exposure: Students can gain hands-on experience with modern engineering technologies.
  • Industry-oriented curriculum: Training will include inputs from Bajaj Auto engineers.
  • Advanced infrastructure: The centre will have dedicated laboratory space.
  • Future-ready skills: Students will learn areas such as robotics, automation, and smart manufacturing.
  • Joint certification: Successful students will receive certification from both TIET and Bajaj Auto.
