Nearly 2,000 private degree, professional, and technical colleges in Telangana have begun an indefinite shutdown from today, 15 September 2025, citing delay by the state government in clearing fee reimbursement dues. All examinations in these colleges are suspended until the dues issue is resolved.
Colleges’ Demands and Financial Dues
The Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education Institutions (FATHI) has raised several demands related to the reimbursement issue:
- Immediate release of ₹1,200 crore has already been sanctioned.
- Clearance of pending dues from previous years, amounting to nearly ₹8,000 crore.
- Government Order to establish a new annual reimbursement system, with deadlines:
- ₹1,200 crore to be released before Dussehra (mid-October)
- All arrears cleared by 31 December 2025
- Reimbursement for academic year 2025-26 to be finalised before 31 March 2026
Impact on Students, Staff and Academic Calendar
Because of the non-payment:
- Faculty and non-teaching staff in many colleges have not received salaries for several months.
- The closure affects hundreds of thousands of students, disrupting lectures, exams, and academic progress.
- Colleges will remain locked, classes suspended, and examinations will not be conducted until the issue is addressed.
