Concerns have intensified over the evaluation of postgraduate (MD/MS) medical exams in Telangana after several final-year students reportedly failed by narrow margins. The resignation of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) Vice Chancellor Dr PV Nanda Kumar Reddy on Friday has further fuelled the agitation.
Students Demand Revaluation
Postgraduate students from both government and private colleges have approached the university and health department officials for revaluation of exam papers. A recent case where a female student’s paper was revaluated and she was declared passed has emboldened their demand. The students claimed gross discrepancies and irregularities in the evaluation of:
- Theory exams: October 7–15, 2025
- Practical exams: October 25–30, 2025
Results were declared on November 4, 2025, and out of 1,900 candidates, around 200 reportedly failed, marking an 11% failure rate, significantly higher than previous batches’ 1–2%.
Concerns Over Evaluation Process
PG students allege:
- Faster result processing than usual
- Large score discrepancies: differences of 60–80 marks cumulatively
- Evaluator qualifications may not meet NMC requirements of at least eight years of teaching experience
- Possible single-level evaluation instead of the mandated two-level system
Dr Venkatesh Kumar, a third-year PG student at Gandhi Medical College, stated, “We approached the VC and health minister for revaluation, who referred us to the health secretary, but received no response. The issue is very serious, and legal action may be considered.”
Students’ Demands
The PG students are urging the authorities to:
- Conduct revaluation of exam papers
- Constitute a three-member independent committee to scrutinize the process
- Ensure experienced faculty members evaluate papers
The students’ agitation highlights growing concerns over transparency and accountability in medical exam evaluations in Telangana.
