Tamil Nadu Schools & Colleges May Close November 24 Amid Rain Alert

In Tamil Nadu, educational institutions are being monitored closely as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues warnings of heavy rainfall across several districts. Schools and colleges may be ordered to remain closed on November 24, 2025, depending on local conditions. Students, parents, and staff are advised to watch for official announcements from district administrations.

Weather Alert Triggers Possible Closure of Schools & Colleges

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for districts such as Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai, among others. These areas often face water‑logging, poor road conditions and other hazards during intense rain. In light of these risks, authorities are considering declaring a holiday for schools and colleges on November 24 to ensure student safety. District education officials have been informed to stand by for overnight updates. Schools are urged to keep parents informed through SMS or emails. No blanket state‑wide holiday has been officially declared yet, but localised closures are expected in vulnerable zones.

What Students & Parents Should Do Ahead of November 24?

Before any administrative order takes effect, students and families should follow these key steps:

• Contact the school or college administration by evening of November 23 to confirm the status for November 24.
• Monitor official district or school social‑media handles for notifications.
• Prepare for the possibility of online classes or hybrid learning if consolidation of schedule occurs.
• Ensure travel to and from school is safe if classes proceed—check road conditions and weather updates.

Districts Likely to Announce Closure & Those Operating Normally

While detailed confirmation is pending, preliminary advisories suggest that coastal and low‑lying districts may close institutions, whereas other regions may operate as usual unless advised otherwise. Parents are urged not to assume closure until the official order is issued.
