SSC Restores Own Scribe Option for PwBD Candidates till December 31

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has restored the own scribe facility for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) appearing in SSC exams notified on or before December 31, 2025. This move follows a clarification issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) on September 10, 2025, which permitted all public recruitment exams announced before 2026 to continue under the earlier scribe rules.

The Commission’s latest decision effectively puts on hold its previous order dated September 3, 2025, which had discontinued the “own scribe” option and mandated SSC to provide scribes centrally.

SSC Own Scribe Facility Restored for PwBD Candidates

As per the SSC’s latest circular, the restoration of the own scribe option will apply to all upcoming SSC examinations that were notified before or on December 31, 2025. Candidates who are eligible under the PwBD category can now bring their own scribes to the examination centre, subject to specific conditions.

This measure aims to ensure that PwBD candidates continue to receive accessible and fair examination opportunities while maintaining compliance with DEPwD’s clarification.

SSC Own Scribe Facility 2025 – Key Conditions

The Commission has introduced certain mandatory guidelines for candidates availing of the restored scribe facility to ensure uniformity and transparency.

SSC Age Restriction for Scribes

The scribe’s age must align with the educational qualification level required for the respective post:

  • Matric Level Exams: Up to 20 years
  • 10+2 Level Exams: Up to 20 years
  • Graduate Level Exams: Up to 22 years

Aadhaar-Based Authentication

All scribes must undergo Aadhaar authentication at the exam centre. Failure to verify Aadhaar details will render the scribe ineligible, and the candidate will either have to use a scribe provided by SSC or take the exam without one.

The Commission has emphasized that this authentication step is crucial to maintain exam integrity and transparency across all centres.

Official Notice Available

The official SSC notice on restoration of the own scribe facility has been uploaded on the Commission’s website at ssc.gov.in. It includes all applicable guidelines and eligibility criteria for PwBD candidates and scribes for the upcoming SSC exams.
