The South Central Railway (SCR) has announced a significant recruitment drive for 2,801 Act Apprentice positions under the Apprentice Act of 1961. This notification, which is set to close today, April 11, 2026, provides a vital opportunity for aspiring candidates to secure a position in various trades including Electrician, Fitter, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA), Welder, and Diesel Mechanic across multiple SCR units.

 

Eligible candidates are required to submit their applications through the official Railway Recruitment Cell portal before 11:59 PM today. The online registration process commenced on March 12, 2026, at 5:00 PM, and is now nearing its conclusion. Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for these apprentice positions, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Completion of Class 10 (SSC) with at least 50% aggregate marks.
  • Possession of an ITI certificate in the relevant trade recognized by NCVT or SCVT.
  • Age limit between 15 and 24 years as of April 4, 2026, with applicable relaxations for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD, and Ex-servicemen.

 

 

Application Fee and Payment Methods

The application fee structure is as follows:

  • General, OBC, and EWS candidates: ₹100
  • SC, ST, female, transgender, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: Exempted from payment

Payments can be made through various methods including net banking, debit card, credit card, or SBI UPI. Candidates are encouraged to complete their payment promptly to ensure their application is processed.

 

 

Selection Process and Trade Distribution

The selection of candidates will be based on a merit list that takes into account the average marks obtained in both the SSC and ITI examinations, with equal weightage given to each. Following the merit list, candidates will undergo a document verification process and a medical examination.

The available trades and their distribution across the SCR units include:

  • Electrician
  • Fitter
  • COPA
  • Welder
  • Diesel Mechanic
  • Carpenter

Applicants from eligible districts in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh (excluding specified areas), Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh are encouraged to apply.
