Shiv Nadar University Launches Satyam Kalon with Trinity Laban

Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR, in collaboration with Trinity Laban, London, has officially launched Satyam Kalon, a new interdisciplinary arts research and education initiative. The project aims to reshape global arts education by bringing together leading institutions from India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The announcement was made on 27 Nov 2025. Satyam Kalon is designed to strengthen cross-cultural collaboration, encourage advanced artistic research, and create new pathways for students and scholars pursuing careers in the creative and performing arts.

What Is Satyam Kalon and Why It Matters?

Satyam Kalon is an interdisciplinary platform that blends philosophy, performance, visual arts, music, and academic research. The name combines the Sanskrit word Satyam (Truth) and the Greek word Kalon (Beauty), reflecting a shared global vision of artistic excellence. The initiative is led by the Department of Art, Media and Performance at Shiv Nadar University and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London. It focuses on collaboration across disciplines rather than limiting learning to a single art form. The programme aims to develop future-ready artists, educators, curators, and researchers by encouraging experimentation, global exposure, and academic depth within the creative ecosystem.

Participating Institutions in the Satyam Kalon Collaboration

Satyam Kalon brings together some of the most respected institutions in contemporary arts education and research. These include:

  • Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR
  • Trinity Laban, London
  • Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, Bengaluru
  • KM Music Conservatory, Chennai
  • Columbia University, New York (student participation)
  • Bonn University, Germany (visiting faculty)
  • The Courtauld Institute of Art, London (visiting faculty)

Through this network, students and scholars will gain access to international seminars, joint workshops, curated performances, and academic exchange programmes held in Delhi and London.

Scholarships, Grants and Global Academic Support

The Satyam Kalon project is supported by leading philanthropists and has received endorsement from global cultural figures, including AR Rahman, Honorary President of Trinidad Laban. The initiative will offer:

  • Merit-based scholarships
  • Research grants
  • Advanced teaching fellowships
  • International training opportunities

These benefits will be available to selected candidates from disciplines such as dance, music, visual arts, art history, media studies, and philosophy. The aim is to reduce financial barriers and promote inclusive access to world-class arts education. Before rolling out across partner institutions, the programme will follow a structured academic calendar covering training modules, research outputs, and public showcases.

Vision for the Future of Interdisciplinary Arts Education

The Department of Art, Media and Performance at Shiv Nadar University is already recognized as one of the few departments in India that bridges creative practice with academic research. Satyam Kalon builds on this foundation by adding strong international collaboration and curriculum innovation. By connecting students and faculty across continents, the initiative aims to shape future cultural leaders who can work across artistic, academic, and professional boundaries. The long-term goal is to establish Satyam Kalon as a global model for interdisciplinary arts education and research.
