School Closures on 20 November 2025: Where Are Schools Open or Closed?

Schools across India are set to follow different schedules on 20 November 2025 as several districts face weather alerts and pollution levels that raise safety concerns. While most states will operate normally, closures are confirmed in some areas and possible in others due to rainfall risk or high air-quality index (AQI). Authorities in various states have not declared a nationwide holiday but have advised vigilance in districts with flood risk or smog-related alerts. Parents and students are urged to monitor local announcements before heading to school.

State-Wise School Closure Update for 20 November 2025

The following overview shows the status of school operations by state, helping parents and students plan ahead. The table reflects confirmed closures and potential risks based on recent alerts and advisories.

Explanation and Recommendations:

In Tamil Nadu, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings for districts such as Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and others, raising the likelihood of a local school closure. In the National Capital Region, despite very poor air quality, authorities have not declared a full holiday; younger students may follow hybrid schooling while older students attend in-person classes.

What Parents and Students Should Do Now?

• Confirm with the school administration or official district website regarding closure or modified timings.
• If in a region flagged for rain or smog, keep checking for midnight or early-morning announcements.
• Students should prepare for either scenario — carry study materials and mask if going to school, or plan online lessons if closure is in effect.
• Avoid relying solely on social-media posts or informal messages; use official school/Gov channels.

Why No Nationwide School Holiday?

Unlike major national festivals or catastrophes, the 20 November 2025 status involves localised factors — regional observances like the martyrdom day in Punjab or weather/pollution alerts in parts of Tamil Nadu or Delhi. Therefore, most states maintain regular schedules and decide closures at the district level.
