Safe Score for GATE 2026 Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering remains one of the most competitive branches in GATE. Candidates targeting admissions or PSU jobs generally aim for higher scores.

A score above these ranges increases the chances of securing a top rank and better admission opportunities.

What is Considered a Safe Score in GATE?

A GATE safe score refers to the score that improves the probability of securing admission in preferred institutes or getting shortlisted for PSU recruitment. While the qualifying cutoff for most GATE papers ranges between 25 and 35 marks, it only allows candidates to participate in counselling. In contrast, a safe score generally lies above 750 out of 1000, which corresponds to around 65 marks or higher out of 100. Several factors influence the safe score each year, including:

• Difficulty level of the paper
• Total number of candidates
• Seat availability in IITs and NITs
• Normalisation process across shifts
