The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts the NTPC (Non‑Technical Popular Categories) 2026 exam in multiple stages including CBT 1 and CBT 2. Both stages assess candidates across General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence & Reasoning with objective‑type questions and negative marking. This article explains the exam structure, number of questions, duration, and marking scheme for each stage.

RRB NTPC 2026 Exam Pattern: CBT 1 & CBT 2 Structure, Marking Scheme

The RRB NTPC 2026 selection process begins with two computer‑based tests — CBT 1 (screening test) and CBT 2 (main exam) — which assess candidates on common subjects. Performance in CBT 1 determines eligibility for CBT 2

RRB NTPC CBT 1 Exam Pattern 2026

The first stage of the exam is conducted in online mode and consists of 100 objective questions covering core topics. The structure is as follows:

  • All questions carry 1 mark each.
  • A negative marking of 1/3rd is applicable for every incorrect response.
  • CBT 1 is qualifying in nature, used to shortlist candidates for CBT 2.

RRB NTPC CBT 2 Exam Pattern 2026

Candidates who clear CBT 1 are eligible for CBT 2, which is more competitive and carries higher weightage in final selection. The pattern is as follows

  • Each correct answer adds 1 mark.
  • Negative marking of 1/3rd is deducted for incorrect answers.
  • Scores from CBT 2 generally have higher influence in merit and selection lists.

Additional Tests & Selection Process

Apart from CBT 1 and CBT 2, the RRB NTPC recruitment process may include role‑specific tests:

  • Typing Skill Test: For clerical and typist posts, candidates must demonstrate typing proficiency in English or Hindi
  • Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Applicable for posts like Station Master and Traffic Assistant; no negative marking here.
  • Document Verification and Medical Examination: Final stages before appointment, based on qualifying marks and vacancies.

Key Points to Remember
