The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a re-examination for UGC-NET June 2026 in English, Commerce, and Sociology after an expert committee found serious errors in the question papers.
The re-exam will be held on September 9 and 10, 2026. Affected candidates will not have to pay any additional fee for appearing in the fresh examination.
UGC-NET 2026 Re-Exam Schedule
Candidates appearing for these subjects should check the examination details, city information, and admit card updates issued by NTA.
Why Is NTA Conducting the Re-Exam?
NTA decided to conduct the fresh examination after receiving several complaints about the three question papers.
An internal committee reviewed the complaints and found factual mistakes, typographical errors, translation issues, and repeated questions.
The committee found that the issues were serious enough to require a fresh examination instead of simply removing individual incorrect questions.
What Errors Were Found in UGC-NET Papers?
The review identified several problems in the question papers.
The Sociology paper reportedly contained spelling errors in the names of scholars. Examples included Ritzer being printed as “Putzer”, Parsons as “Parsow,” and Ghurye as “Ghunye”.
Candidates also reported a high level of question repetition. In the English paper, 67 out of 150 questions were reportedly identical to questions from the 2024 examination, including the same sequence of options.
Similar complaints were also raised regarding the Commerce paper.
The committee also identified issues with question wording, book titles and grammatical errors.
No Extra Fee for UGC-NET Re-Exam
Candidates affected by the re-examination will not have to pay an additional examination fee.
NTA will provide separate information about the examination city and admit cards. Candidates should check their registered details and follow the instructions issued for the fresh examination.
What About the Other UGC-NET Subjects?
The re-examination applies only to English, Commerce and Sociology.
The remaining 84 subjects will not be re-examined. Their results and qualification processes will continue as per the existing schedule.
NTA has also stated that the re-examination will not reduce the number of candidates qualifying for JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD admission eligibility.
