Noida district authorities have declared that schools from Nursery to Class 8 will remain closed till January 15, 2026 due to the ongoing severe cold wave and dense fog conditions affecting normal life and travel safety. The extended closure applies to all recognised school boards operating in Gautam Buddha Nagar.
Noida School Closure Till January 15: Extended Winter Break
The Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration has ordered that all schools from Nursery to Class 8 remain closed until January 15, 2026 in view of persistent dense fog and extreme cold weather that pose risks for students’ safety and commuting. The order, issued by the District Basic Education Officer following directives from the District Magistrate, applies to schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board and other recognised boards. Officials emphasised that schools must strictly follow the closure directive and warned of administrative action if any institution violates the order by reopening before the stipulated date.
Reason for Extended Closure: Severe Cold Wave and Dense Fog
The decision to extend the winter break is driven by continuing cold wave conditions and dense fog, which have significantly reduced visibility and lowered temperatures across Noida and the wider National Capital Region (NCR). These weather conditions make morning travel particularly unsafe for children and increase the risk of health issues related to prolonged exposure to cold. During the closure period, authorities are prioritising student health and safety, and parents and school authorities have been advised to stay updated through official school and district notifications.
Scope of School Closure Order
The closure affects the following categories of students and schools:
- Schools from Nursery to Class 8 across the Gautam Buddha Nagar district
- All boards, including CBSE, ICSE, IB, and UP Board
- Both government and private schools are recognised by the district administration
The decision aligns with similar closures in neighbouring regions, where winter breaks and school holidays have been extended due to cold weather impacts.
