NIOS Cancels November 6 Exams 2025 Due to Bihar Election

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has cancelled the Class 10 (Secondary) and Class 12 (Senior Secondary) theory examinations scheduled for November 6, 2025, across all examination centres in India. The decision comes in view of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 and the related administrative and logistical challenges that the elections entail. NIOS issued a public notice urging students and study centres to stay updated through the official portal, nios.ac.in, for further information on the revised exam schedule.

Reason for Cancellation

As per an official tweet by NIOS, the examinations could not be conducted today due to election-related administrative requirements. The tweet stated: “Due to the Bihar elections, administrative and logistic reasons, today's (6th Nov. 2025) theory exam will not be conducted throughout India. New date of the exam will be informed very soon.” NIOS had planned to conduct multiple papers today:

  • Class 12: Physics, History, Environmental Science, Library and Information Science
  • Class 10: Painting

All these exams have now been postponed and fresh dates will be communicated officially.

Advisory for Students and Study Centres

NIOS has advised learners and affiliated study centres to retain their admit cards and avoid making any changes to their upcoming exam plans until the board issues revised instructions. Students are encouraged to frequently check nios.ac.in for updates regarding rescheduled dates. The notice from NIOS reads:“All candidates appearing for NIOS Examination are advised to keep visiting the official website of NIOS for latest updates.” This ensures that students do not miss important announcements regarding their rescheduled examinations.

What Students Should Do Next?

  • Keep admit cards and hall tickets safe for future use.
  • Avoid scheduling conflicting plans until fresh dates are released.
  • Monitor official communications on nios.ac.in and verified NIOS social media handles.
  • Contact study centres for any clarifications or guidance on upcoming examinations.

Background

The National Institute of Open Schooling conducts secondary and senior secondary examinations for students enrolled in its open schooling system. It provides education to learners who cannot pursue regular schooling due to geographic, social, or personal reasons. This year, several students were scheduled to appear for critical subjects in both Class 10 and Class 12 exams. The cancellation due to Bihar elections reflects the board’s emphasis on ensuring smooth administrative coordination and safety during national and state-level elections.

Looking Ahead

NIOS has assured students that the revised dates will be released soon. Candidates appearing for examinations are expected to follow official updates and avoid relying on unofficial social media posts or circulating messages regarding exam schedules. The board has stressed that the cancellation is limited to November 6, 2025, and examinations for other dates will continue as per the announced timetable unless otherwise notified. Students are advised to maintain regular study routines to stay prepared for the rescheduled exams.
