The National Informatics Centre (NIC), which operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has officially launched its recruitment drive for the positions of Scientist-C and Scientist-D. This initiative aims to fill a total of 153 vacancies across various technical and scientific fields, providing candidates with attractive salary packages and the chance to contribute to essential government technology infrastructure, including e-Governance and national digital platforms.

The online application process for these prestigious roles commenced on April 8, 2026, and will remain open until April 30, 2026, at 5:30 PM. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the official NIC recruitment portal, as no offline applications will be entertained. It is crucial for applicants to ensure that their applications are complete, as incomplete submissions or failure to pay the application fee by the deadline will result in rejection.

 

Details of Vacancies and NIC Salary Structure

The recruitment drive encompasses 12 posts for Scientist-D and 141 posts for Scientist-C. The salary structure for these positions is as follows:

NIC Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

To be eligible for these Scientist positions, candidates must possess a degree in engineering, technology, or relevant science disciplines. Acceptable qualifications include:

  • M.E./M.Tech

  • MCA
  • M.Phil
  • Equivalent certifications such as DOEACC ‘B’ Level and AMIE

The relevant fields of study span a broad spectrum, including:

  • Cyber Security
  • Data Communication
  • Software Engineering
  • GIS
  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Core engineering disciplines like Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical

For the Scientist-C positions, candidates are required to have a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, while those applying for Scientist-D roles must possess at least 8 years of experience in research, development, or technical roles within academic institutions, industries, or government organizations. A PhD is considered desirable for the Scientist-D positions.

 

Additionally, candidates with advanced degrees such as M.Tech, M.E., or M.Phil may benefit from a 2-year relaxation in the experience requirement, making these positions accessible to a wider range of applicants.

 

NIC Reservation and Special Considerations

The NIC recruitment drive also adheres to government norms regarding category-wise reservations. The distribution of vacancies includes:

  • SC (Scheduled Castes)
  • ST (Scheduled Tribes)
  • OBC (Other Backward Classes) (NCL)
  • EWS (Economically Weaker Sections)

Moreover, there are 6 posts reserved horizontally for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), which encompass various categories, including:
