A recent survey shows that 46% of students prefer an online format for NEET UG 2026 to combat paper leak issues. Explore the implications and student sentiments.
A recent survey has revealed significant insights into student preferences regarding the NEET UG exam format for 2026. With ongoing concerns about the integrity of the examination process, particularly following multiple instances of paper leaks, a notable 46% of students expressed a desire for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) to transition to an online format. This shift aims to enhance security and transparency in the examination process.
The call for an online NEET UG exam comes in light of the National Testing Agency's (NTA) recent decision to cancel the NEET UG 2026 exam, originally scheduled for May 12, 2026, due to allegations of a paper leak. This cancellation has raised questions about the future format of the exam, as students and parents alike express their frustrations over the recurring issues surrounding the paper-based testing method.
NEET UG 2026: Key Findings from the Survey
The survey conducted by Shiksha highlights a divided opinion among students regarding the NEET UG examination format:
- 46% of students advocate for an online exam to mitigate risks associated with paper leaks.
- 24% prefer maintaining the traditional pen-and-paper format but demand enhanced security measures.
- 28% believe that the mode of examination is less critical than ensuring that leaks do not occur.
This division underscores the urgency for the NTA to address the security concerns that have plagued the NEET UG examination process.
Implications of the NEET UG 2026 Paper Leak Controversy
The repeated controversies surrounding the NEET UG exam have led to heightened anxiety among students. The recent survey indicates that:
- 52% of students are willing to accept an offline exam if the NTA can guarantee tighter security measures to prevent leaks.
This sentiment reflects a broader concern among students and parents regarding the integrity of the examination process. With over 22 lakh students affected by these issues, the demand for a more secure and transparent examination format is becoming increasingly urgent.
