NEET UG Counselling 2025: NMC Drops 50 MBBS Seats, Total Now 1,28,875

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has updated the MBBS and BDS seat matrix for the 2025–26 academic session, showing a slight reduction in total seats. Earlier, the total number of medical seats was listed as 1,28,925, but after revision, it now stands at 1,28,875, marking a decrease of 50 seats.

According to NMC, 11,350 new MBBS seats have been introduced across medical colleges for 2025–26 (excluding AIIMS and JIPMER). However, the previous seat matrix had shown an increase of 11,400 seats, creating a difference of 100 seats between the two versions. During the renewal process for 2025–26, 456 seats were reduced from some institutions.

NMC clarified that the change was due to typographical errors in the earlier data, particularly concerning the Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Gujarat, and the Viraat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences (new establishment), which have now been corrected.
