NEET UG 2025 Seat Matrix Revised to 1,28,875; 50 MBBS Seats Cut

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has revised the NEET UG 2025 seat matrix, reducing the total number of MBBS and BDS seats to 1,28,875. This correction reflects a drop of 50 medical seats after fixing earlier errors in the published seat data.

Earlier, the total seat count was listed as 1,28,925, which included discrepancies due to data entry mistakes in the updated list.

NEET UG 2025 Seat Matrix Revised by NMC

For the 2025–26 academic session, NMC has confirmed that 11,350 new seats were added across various medical institutions, including AIIMS and JIPMER campuses. However, 50 seats were later removed following a review of inconsistencies.

The commission clarified that the mismatch of 100 seats occurred due to typographical errors while updating data for the Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Gujarat, and the Viraat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences, a newly established college.

After correction, the final NEET UG 2025 seat matrix stands as follows:

NMC also mentioned that 456 seats were reduced during the 2025–26 renewal process, affecting some existing colleges that did not meet the updated infrastructure and faculty norms.

NEET UG 2025 Stray Round Counselling Begins November 4

Students who were not allotted seats in earlier counselling rounds will have another opportunity to apply under the stray round counselling, starting November 4, 2025.

Participating institutions will release a tentative seat list during registration. Candidates must report to allotted colleges with necessary documents to confirm their admission.

Failure to report or join the allotted college will lead to:

  • Cancellation of admission opportunity
  • One-year debarment from NEET participation
  • Forfeiture of counselling fees

Why the NEET UG 2025 Seat Update Matters?

With over 20 lakh candidates competing for around 1.29 lakh seats, even minor changes in the seat matrix can impact thousands of students. The corrected data ensures transparent seat distribution and helps candidates plan for the stray round admissions effectively.

The NEET UG 2025 counselling process continues to be overseen by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), ensuring fair allocation across government and private medical institutions.
