The National Medical Commission (NMC) has updated the NEET-UG 2025 seat matrix, adding 9,075 new MBBS seats for the academic year 2025-26. As of October 10, 2025, there are 1,26,600 MBBS seats available in India, including both renewed and newly approved seats.
The new seats do not include those at AIIMS or JIPMER. The seat matrix for NEET-UG 2025 has been revised multiple times this year due to changes in seat approval at several medical colleges. The addition of seats follows the Union Cabinet’s approval of 10,000 MBBS seats under Phase 3 of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for expanding medical education in India.
