NEET SS Counselling 2025: Doctors Demand Additional Round to Fill Vacant Seats, MCC Update Awaited

Doctors and NEET SS aspirants have urged the Union Health Ministry to conduct an additional round of NEET SS counselling 2025 after around 1,700 super-speciality medical seats were reported vacant following the completion of two counselling rounds. The Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) has sought intervention from Union Health Minister JP Nadda, requesting a special NEET SS Round 3 counselling to utilise the vacant seats.

The demand for an additional round comes at a time when thousands of eligible candidates are still waiting for another opportunity to secure a DM, MCh or DrNB super-speciality seat. According to the representation cited in reports, nearly 4,000 NEET SS-qualified candidates are awaiting a further counselling opportunity, while approximately 1,700 seats are reported to remain vacant.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has completed Round 2 of the NEET SS 2025 counselling process. However, no official announcement regarding a third or additional round has been made so far. The final vacancy position is expected to become clearer after the completion of the Round 2 reporting and joining process.

NEET SS Counselling 2025: Why Doctors Are Demanding Round 3?

The IMA-JDN has highlighted concerns over the reported 1,700 vacant NEET SS seats. According to the doctors' representation, allowing a significant number of super-speciality seats to remain vacant would mean losing valuable training opportunities during the current academic session.

Doctors have also argued that vacant super-speciality seats could contribute to a shortage of trained specialists in the country. They have therefore requested the competent authorities to consider a special NEET SS counselling Round 3 or an additional counselling opportunity.

The demand has been raised after the completion of two rounds under the existing NEET SS 2025 counselling scheme. The association has stated that the situation after Round 2 warrants consideration of another round to utilise seats that may otherwise remain vacant.

The reported 1,700 vacant seats have become the central issue behind the demand for additional NEET SS counselling. These seats are in super-speciality programmes, where eligible doctors compete for limited training opportunities.

According to the representation, nearly 4,000 qualified candidates are reportedly waiting for another counselling opportunity. Doctors have argued that conducting an additional round could allow eligible candidates to fill some of the seats that remain vacant after Round 2.

However, candidates should note that the 1,700-seat figure is a reported estimate and not yet a final official vacancy figure. MCC's official super-speciality counselling portal continues to publish vacancy and seat-related notices as the counselling process progresses.

At present, candidates are waiting for an official decision on NEET SS Round 3 counselling 2025. The original counselling scheme provided for two rounds, and a new round would require an official notification and schedule from the competent authority.

Therefore, candidates should not consider Round 3 confirmed until MCC issues an official notice. Any NEET SS counselling 2025 Round 3 date, registration schedule, choice filling window or seat matrix will become official only after the competent authorities announce it.

The MCC super-speciality counselling portal currently lists the Round 2 final result and related vacancy notices, including virtual and clear vacancy information.
