NEET PG Counselling 2026: Check Freeze, Float Changes Introduced by MCC

The NEET PG 2026 counselling process will begin with Round 1 registration on October 12, 2026. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has introduced several changes in the counselling process this year, including new Freeze and Float options, online document verification and an online NRI quota process.

The changes will apply to candidates participating in MCC counselling for postgraduate medical admissions. The counselling will cover 50% All India Quota seats, central universities, deemed universities and other seats under MCC. The NEET PG Exam was conducted by NBEMS, and qualified candidates can now take part in the admission process through the MCC portal.

What Has Changed in NEET PG Counselling 2026?

The biggest change in NEET PG 2026 counselling is the introduction of Freeze and Float options after seat allotment. Under the new system, candidates who are satisfied with their allotted seat can choose Freeze and continue with that seat without seeking an upgrade.

Those who want to keep their allotted seat but also want a better seat in the next round can select Float. MCC has also introduced online document upload and verification for Float candidates. This reduces the need for candidates to visit the allotted institute for the verification process.

The changes are aimed at making the NEET PG counselling process more digital and easier to manage. The online options also give candidates more flexibility after receiving a seat allotment.

NEET PG 2026 Freeze and Float Options Explained

Under the Freeze option, a candidate accepts the allotted seat and does not want to participate in upgradation in the following round. Candidates choosing Float can retain their current seat while remaining eligible for an upgrade in the next counselling round.

MCC has also added an online resignation facility for Float candidates. Such candidates can log in to the MCC portal and submit a request to surrender their allotted seat within the given timeline. This is an important change for students comparing seats across counselling rounds.

Online NRI and PwD Processes Introduced

The NEET PG 2026 counselling brochure also changes the process for NRI candidates. Earlier, candidates seeking NRI eligibility had to email supporting documents to MCC before each round. For 2026, the NRI documentation process will be handled online through the MCC portal.

Another major update concerns PwD candidates. The number of listed medical assessment boards has increased from 16 to 65. MCC has also extended the internship completion cut-off from July 31 to September 30, giving candidates more time to complete the required internship.
