NEET PG 2025: NRI Status Conversion Deadline December 3, 2025

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued a notice allowing certain candidates in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 counselling to convert their nationality status from “Indian” to “NRI.” Those who wish to avail NRI-quota benefits must submit all required documents via email by 8:00 AM on 03-12-2025. The move provides a narrow but important window for aspirants who qualify as NRI or whose parents/relatives hold valid NRI credentials — allowing them another route for seat allocation under NRI quota for PG medical seats across India.

Why MCC Allows NRI Status Conversion in Counselling 2025

According to the latest notice, MCC has reopened the conversion option to align with regulations for deemed universities and NRI quota allocations. This step is especially relevant for candidates seeking admission under NRI quota, which often comes with separate fee structures and seat allocation norms. By submitting the required documents within the stipulated deadline, candidates can have their status changed even during ongoing counselling — giving a second chance to those who may qualify for NRI seats but had previously applied as Indian residents.

Required Documents for Nationality Conversion to NRI

Below is the full list of documents candidates must submit in a single email to the designated MCC NRI email address before the deadline. Failure to submit any of these items properly may result in rejection of the conversion request.

  • NEET PG 2025 Admit Card and Score Card
  • Proof of NRI status of parent/relative: valid Passport, Visa / Residence Permit / Work Permit, or OCI / PIO card, or NRI certificate issued by Indian Embassy or Consulate
  • Certificate of Relationship between NRI relative and candidate (issued by competent revenue authority via family-tree document)
  • Notarised Affidavit from NRI relative stating they will sponsor entire course fee and living expenses — supported by NRE bank account passbook
  • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and passing certificates
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport of candidate or sponsor (optional but recommended)

MCC has clarified that all documents must be enclosed in one single email, either before or at the exact cut-off time. Partial or late submissions will be rejected.

What Candidates Should Know Before Opting for NRI Status?

Before deciding to convert their status, candidates must keep in mind several key conditions:

  • Once converted to NRI, the candidate will be treated as NRI for all subsequent rounds of counselling.
  • Candidates under NRI quota cannot avail benefits under other reservation categories such as SC/ST/OBC/Minority quotas at the same time.
  • Verification of all documents will be done by the allotted college at the time of admission. If discrepancies are found, the seat offer may be cancelled.
  • NRI-quota seats often come with different fee structures and sponsorship conditions; candidates and sponsors should be financially prepared before opting.
