The first round of NEET PG 2025 counselling has revealed a clear shift in preferences among top-ranked candidates. Newly published data from the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) indicates that a significant section of the highest scorers leaned toward MD General Medicine, while Radiology saw a marginal drop compared to previous admission cycles. According to the provisional allotment figures, forty-six of the top one hundred candidates opted for General Medicine, whereas forty selected Radio-Diagnosis, signaling a subtle but notable change in branch preference. The trend was even stronger in the top-ten ranks, where nine candidates selected General Medicine.
General Medicine Leads NEET PG 2025 Choice Patterns
A closer look at the top selections shows that PGIMER-Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi, emerged as the most preferred institute among NEET PG high-rank holders. The hospital secured six out of the top-ten allotments, reaffirming its strong training structure, balanced workload, and academic environment as major factors behind candidate choices. Only Rank four selected Radio-Diagnosis, breaking the otherwise uniform streak of Medicine choices in the top ten. Several candidates have previously highlighted that General Medicine offers wider long-term opportunities in DM specialisations, which may have influenced this year’s choices. Before presenting the allotment table, it is important to highlight that these placements reflect the first provisional list of Round-one and may shift slightly in subsequent rounds.

Branch Distribution: Medicine Maintains Lead Across Top-100
The broader distribution further reinforces the strong pull of General Medicine. The top-hundred choices include forty-six seats in Medicine, followed by forty in Radiology, three each in Dermatology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and General Surgery, and one seat each in Paediatrics, Nuclear Medicine, and Orthopaedics. Surgical branches again recorded lower uptake, with General Surgery securing only three seats among the top hundred. Many trainees cite limited early operative exposure and longer training hierarchies as the main deterrents. As Round-two approaches, counsellors expect these patterns to influence future DM/MCh seat dynamics. Early choices show that General Medicine continues to remain the strongest contender among top performers this year.
