The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released a revised seat matrix for NEET PG 2025 Round 3 counselling, adding new postgraduate seats and adjusting vacancies. Candidates are advised to review the updated matrix and complete choice filling before the deadline.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which oversees the national postgraduate medical counselling process, has issued an updated seat matrix for Round 3 of NEET PG 2025 counselling. This revision includes new seats added to the MD and MS postgraduate medical programmes, along with adjustments to vacancies available for allocation in the current round of counselling.
New Seat Additions and Vacancy Overview
Under the revised seat matrix for NEET PG 2025 Round 3, additional seats have been introduced across various specialisations to expand candidate options and improve seat availability. The updated matrix shows:
- Hundreds of newly added MD and MS seats, increasing overall vacancy counts for Round 3
- Vacancies classified as clear vacancies and virtual vacancies, reflecting seats available after accounting for movement from previous rounds of counselling
- Adjustments to the matrix in response to approvals and institutional capacity changes
These changes aim to offer more opportunities for qualifying candidates and to help ensure that postgraduate medical seats are filled through the counselling process.
What Candidates Should Do Next?
With the updated seat matrix now in effect, NEET PG 2025 aspirants participating in Round 3 counselling are advised to:
- Access the latest seat matrix details through the MCC portal when available
- Review the updated vacancies across MD, MS and DNB courses
- Update and lock their choice of preferences accordingly before the choice filling deadline
Completing these steps on time is critical because seat allocation for Round 3 will be based on the final locked preferences and the updated matrix.
Why the Seat Matrix Was Revised?
The revisions to the seat matrix reflect several administrative and regulatory approvals by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and related authorities. These include:
- Approval of additional postgraduate seats in recognisable medical colleges
- Upgradation of available seats resulting from resignations or movement in earlier counselling rounds
- Compliance with institution capacity enhancements and regulatory mandates
Such revisions are typically issued to maximise seat utilisation and accommodate eligible candidates who are participating in later rounds of counselling.
Counselling Timeline and Next Steps
Following the release of the updated seat matrix, the counselling schedule continues with:
- Choice filling and locking by the specified deadline ahead of seat allotment
- Seat allotment results to be published as per the MCC counselling calendar
- Reporting and document verification at the allotted institute for candidates who receive seats
Candidates should plan to complete all processes well before the deadlines to avoid missing out on seat allotment opportunities.
