MBOSE HSSLC 2026 Exams on 11–12 March Cancelled in West Garo Hills

The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has cancelled two Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) 2026 examinations scheduled on 11 March 2026 and 12 March 2026 in the West Garo Hills district. The decision was taken due to a volatile law-and-order situation in the region. According to the official notification, the Music paper scheduled on 11 March 2026 and the Anthropology paper scheduled on 12 March 2026 will not be conducted in the district as planned. However, examinations in all other districts of Meghalaya will continue as per the existing schedule.

MBOSE HSSLC 2026 Exams Affected in West Garo Hills

The board clarified that the cancellation applies only to West Garo Hills district and not to the rest of the state. The exams affected are:

• 11 March 2026: Music
• 12 March 2026: Anthropology

Students appearing for these subjects in West Garo Hills will have to take the exams on revised dates, which will be announced later by the board through an official notification.

Reason Behind Exam Cancellation of MBOSE HSSLC 2026 Exams

Officials said the decision was taken to ensure the safety and convenience of students amid tensions in the district. The unrest is linked to clashes between groups during the nomination process for local council elections, which led to violence and the imposition of security measures in the area. Authorities have deployed additional security forces and imposed curfew measures in certain areas of the district following the incidents.

MBOSE HSSLC 2026 Exams Continue in Other Districts

Despite the disruption in West Garo Hills, the Meghalaya board has confirmed that the HSSLC examinations in all other districts will proceed according to the original timetable. The HSSLC examination is a key Class 12 board exam conducted annually by MBOSE, with over 29,000 students appearing this year across Meghalaya.
