The Maharashtra government has approved the recruitment of 5,012 Assistant Professors in non-government aided senior colleges across the state. The posts were approved based on student strength and workload calculations as of October 2025.
The new recruitment rules also make CCTV recording of the entire interview process mandatory. Colleges will have to follow UGC shortlisting criteria and applicable reservation rules while conducting the recruitment.

The Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department has approved the recruitment of 5,012 Assistant Professor posts in non-government aided senior colleges. The sanctioned posts cover colleges functioning under state public universities.
The posts have been approved based on student strength and workload calculations as of October 2025. Colleges will need university approval before publishing recruitment advertisements.
The recruitment advertisements will have to be published in both a national newspaper and a state-level newspaper. Applications can be accepted through online or offline modes.
CCTV Mandatory During Assistant Professor Interviews
To improve transparency in the recruitment process, colleges have been directed to record the entire interview process through CCTV cameras.
The recordings must be securely preserved as confidential documents for at least one year from the date of the interview. If a complaint, objection, inquiry, court case or statutory proceeding is pending, the recording must be preserved until the matter is resolved.
Maharashtra Assistant Professor Recruitment: Selection Rules
Candidates will be shortlisted according to the criteria prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Colleges will also have to follow social and parallel reservation policies applicable to the recruitment.
The colleges must publish the shortlisting criteria and the list of shortlisted candidates on their respective websites. The relevant recruitment details must also be submitted to the concerned university.
