KSET 2025: KEA Issues Clarification on SC Category After Disputes

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has issued an official clarification regarding SC category classification following disputes related to the KSET 2025 provisional merit list. The notice was released after several complaints were received from candidates regarding incorrect selection of SC sub-categories. The Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) 2025 was conducted on 02 November 2025. After the examination, the provisional answer key was released, and candidates were allowed to submit objections. These objections were reviewed by a Subject Expert Committee, following which the final answer keys and provisional marks list were published on 15 November 2025. Based on the verified scores, KEA released the subject-wise provisional KSET 2025 merit list on 21 November 2025. The merit list displayed the SC sub-category, namely SC-A, SC-B, and SC-C, as selected by candidates at the time of downloading their admit cards.

Complaints Over Wrong SC Sub-Category Selection

After the publication of the merit list, several candidates approached KEA requesting corrections, stating that they had accidentally selected the wrong SC sub-category. Some organisations also raised concerns that a few candidates may have intentionally chosen incorrect categories to claim reservation benefits. In response to these representations, KEA issued a detailed clarification for all candidates included in the KSET 2025 provisional merit list.

Provisional Merit List Does Not Guarantee KSET Eligibility

KEA clarified that the KSET 2025 provisional merit list has been prepared solely on the basis of information entered by candidates during online registration. The authority emphasised that being listed in the provisional merit list does not guarantee the issuance of the KSET 2025 eligibility certificate. Final eligibility will be confirmed only after mandatory document verification.

Document Verification Made Mandatory for All Candidates

All shortlisted candidates must produce their original educational certificates and reservation-related documents, including:

  • Post-graduate degree certificates
  • Valid caste and community certificates
  • Reservation documents, where applicable

The KSET 2025 eligibility certificate will be issued only after successful verification of all documents during the official verification process.

SC-A, SC-B, SC-C Candidates Must Produce RD-Number Certificate

KEA further instructed that candidates claiming SC-A, SC-B, or SC-C reservation must submit a valid Tahsildar-issued caste certificate with RD number. Failure to produce the required certificate will lead to:

  • Rejection of the KSET 2025 eligibility certificate, and
  • Allotment of the seat to the next eligible candidate in the respective category, as per applicable rules.

Candidates have been advised to cross-check their category details and ensure that all documents are accurate and valid. Any discrepancy found during verification may result in cancellation of eligibility.
