Karnataka SSLC 2026: No Weightage for Third Language Marks

The Karnataka School Examinations and Assessments Board has introduced a major change in the SSLC 2026 evaluation system. Third language marks will no longer be counted in the final aggregate score. The update applies to the ongoing exam cycle.

Karnataka SSLC 2026 New Evaluation System

The board has revised the marking pattern to simplify scoring and reduce academic pressure.

  • Board: KSEAB
  • Exam: SSLC 2026
  • Change: No weightage for third language
  • Total marks revised: 525 (earlier 625)
  • Result timeline: Expected by end of April 2026

Students will still need to appear for the third language exam.

Third Language Marks Rule Explained

The new rule changes how final scores are calculated.

  • Marks in third language will not be added to total score
  • Subject remains mandatory to appear
  • Focus shifts to core subjects for final result

Hindi is commonly offered as the third language in SSLC.

Karnataka SSLC Grading System 2026

The board has also replaced marks with a grading system.

Students will be awarded grades instead of marks:

  • Grade A
  • Grade B
  • Grade C
  • Grade D

This move is aimed at reducing stress and simplifying evaluation.

Karnataka SSLC Passing Criteria 2026

Students must meet minimum qualifying requirements to pass.

  • 33% aggregate in internal and external exams
  • Minimum 30% marks in each subject

Both conditions must be satisfied for a pass result.

Important Exam Update

The third language exam will still be conducted as scheduled.

  • Exam date (third language): 31 March 2026

Students should continue preparation for all subjects despite the change in weightage.
