The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a major update for JEE Main 2026. For the first time, candidates will be allowed to use an on-screen calculator during the exam. The feature will be available in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, enabling candidates to perform basic and scientific calculations directly on their exam screens.
JEE Main 2026: Registration and Exam Dates
The JEE Main 2026 registration process for Session 1 has started at the official website — jeemain.nta.ac.in. The last date to apply is November 27, 2025. According to NTA, the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam will be held between January 21 and 30, 2026.
The test will be conducted in two shifts each day:
- Shift 1: 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
- Shift 2: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
The exact date, time, and exam centre will be mentioned on the JEE Main 2026 admit card.
On-Screen Calculator Feature
The newly introduced on-screen calculator will be visible on the computer screen throughout the exam. It can be used for the following operations:
- Basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Square roots and percentages
- Simple algebraic calculations
This addition aims to make problem-solving smoother, especially for complex numerical questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The calculator interface is designed to be user-friendly and will remain active throughout the test duration.
Accessibility Mode and Screen Magnifier
Along with the calculator, NTA has also introduced accessibility features to enhance exam convenience.
- Screen Magnifier: Candidates can enlarge specific sections on the screen for better readability.
- Dark and Light Mode: The interface can be switched between modes based on visibility preference.
- Adjustable Font Size: Text size can be increased or decreased as needed.
- Cursor Trail: A feature allowing users to highlight and control cursor visibility with adjustable size.
These changes are designed to support candidates with visual and cognitive needs and create a more inclusive exam environment.
