JEE Main 2026 Shift 2 has commenced from 21 January as scheduled by NTA. The afternoon shift exam is being conducted smoothly at centres across India and abroad.

JEE Main 2026 Shift 2 has started from 21 January 2026, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducting the afternoon session of the examination as per the notified schedule. Candidates appearing in Shift 2 are reporting to their allotted centres in the second half of the day for the computer-based test. The Shift 2 examination is being held for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programmes through JEE Main 2026.

 

JEE Main 2026 Shift 2 Exam Timing and Reporting

NTA has scheduled Shift 2 in the afternoon slot on all exam days. Candidates are required to strictly follow the reporting and gate closing time mentioned on their admit cards to avoid disqualification. Before entering the examination hall, candidates must complete biometric verification and frisking procedures as mandated by the agency. Late entry after the closing time is not permitted under any circumstances.

 

Papers Conducted in JEE Main Shift 2

JEE Main 2026 Shift 2 includes multiple papers depending on the candidate’s course preference. The exam pattern and syllabus remain unchanged from the official notification.

 

The following papers are being conducted in Shift 2:

  • Paper 1: BTech and BE
  • Paper 2A: BArch
  • Paper 2B: BPlan

All papers are conducted in online mode with multiple-choice and numerical-based questions.

 

Guidelines for Candidates Appearing in Shift 2

Candidates appearing in JEE Main 2026 Shift 2 must carry a printed copy of the admit card along with a valid photo identity proof. Only permitted items are allowed inside the examination hall, as specified in the admit card instructions. Electronic devices, study material, and personal items are strictly prohibited. Candidates are also advised to follow the prescribed dress code to ensure smooth entry at the exam centre.

 

What to Expect After the JEE Main Shift 2 Exam?

After the completion of the Shift 2 examinations, NTA will release the provisional answer key, followed by the final answer key and result declaration. Candidates will be allowed to challenge the provisional answer key within the given timeline. The JEE Main 2026 results will determine eligibility for JEE Advanced 2026 and admissions through JoSAA counselling to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
