The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam started on 21 January 2026 under strict conduct guidelines laid out by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Candidates must avoid prohibited practices including possession of banned items or unfair communication — as these can lead to cancellation of the exam attempt or future debarment.
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1 commenced on 21 January 2026 at 9 am, with computer‑based tests for engineering aspirants conducted across multiple cities in India. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has reiterated strict guidelines for exam conduct, cautioning that violations could result in cancellation of candidates’ exam attempts or even future disqualification.
Exam Schedule and Format
The JEE Main Session 1 schedule for BE/BTech includes tests on 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2026, while BArch/BPlanning papers are slated for 28 and 29 January 2026. All sessions are held in two shifts — morning and afternoon — with biometric attendance and strict verification procedures.
Prohibited Practices That Can Lead to Cancellation
To maintain integrity and fairness, the examination authority has outlined a set of actions that could lead to an Unfair Means (UFM) case, potential cancellation of the exam attempt, or debarment in future sessions:
- Carrying or attempting to use prohibited items such as mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, calculators or other electronic gadgets
- Impersonation or arranging someone else to take the test on one’s behalf
- Communicating or attempting to communicate with individuals other than authorised exam staff during the test
- Attempting to exchange signals, share answers, write on hands/desks or interfere with another candidate’s exam
- Photographing, recording or leaking exam content digitally
- Manipulating admit card, identity documents or other certificates
- Forceful entry/exit outside allowed timings
- Any attempt to hack or tamper with the test software or digital system
- Submission of multiple applications or scorecards for the same session
Engaging in such unfair practices may result in cancellation of the candidate’s current performance, and in severe cases can lead to being barred from future examinations for up to three years under UFM provisions.
Exam Day Compliance and Guidelines
Candidates must carry only approved items such as the admit card, valid photo ID and specified stationery inside the test centre. All instructions printed on the admit card and provided at the exam centre must be followed carefully. Any mismatch, incorrect information, or attempt to deviate from guidelines can attract disciplinary action, including result nullification. Candidates are also reminded that there is no provision for re‑test in case of absence from the scheduled shift, and all rules regarding seating, jotting down rough work, and submission of materials must be adhered to.
