JEE Main 2026 Session 1 has commenced with strict exam-day rules across centres. Candidates violating conduct guidelines may face cancellation, debarment, or legal action.
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1 has started from 21 January 2026 across the country. The exam authority has issued detailed instructions warning candidates that any breach of rules may lead to immediate cancellation and further penalties. The computer-based examination is being conducted in multiple shifts with enhanced monitoring, biometric verification, and frisking at all centres.
JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Exam Dates and Shift Timings
The exam schedule has been announced for different papers and dates. Candidates must strictly follow reporting and shift timings to avoid disqualification. The BE/BTech paper is being held on 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2026, while the BArch and BPlanning papers are scheduled on 28 and 29 January 2026. The examination is conducted in two shifts:
- Morning shift: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
- Evening shift: 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Candidates are required to report well in advance for security checks and biometric verification.
Mandatory Documents and Items Allowed Inside Exam Centres
Before entering the exam hall, candidates must ensure compliance with entry requirements. Failure to follow these instructions may result in non-evaluation of answer sheets. Candidates must carry:
- Downloaded admit card
- Two passport-size photographs
- Valid photo identity proof
The admit card must be submitted in the designated drop box while exiting the exam hall. Only personal stationery such as pencils, erasers, geometry box, and colour pencils or crayons are allowed. Watercolours are strictly prohibited.
Activities That Can Lead to Cancellation of JEE Main 2026 Exam
The exam authority has clearly stated that candidates involved in unfair means will be booked under UFM and may face a ban of up to three years, along with possible criminal proceedings. The following activities can result in cancellation of the exam:
- Possession or use of prohibited items such as mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, calculators, or any electronic gadgets
- Impersonation or arranging another person to write the exam
- Communicating with anyone other than exam staff during the test
- Talking, whispering, exchanging signals, or looking at another candidate’s screen
- Writing on hands, desks, or passing rough sheets with written content
- Attempting to record, photograph, or leak exam questions digitally
- Tampering with admit cards, identity documents, or certificates
- Forceful entry or exit beyond permitted timings
- Submitting multiple applications or scorecards
- Uploading manipulated medical or disability certificates
- Creating disturbances or obstructing the conduct of the examination
Any offence declared under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 will attract strict legal action.
Enhanced Security and Monitoring Measures at Exam Centres
To ensure fairness, biometric attendance and frisking are mandatory at entry and re-entry points. Candidates leaving the hall for a bio-break must undergo biometric verification again before resuming the test. The exam is being conducted under the supervision of National Testing Agency, which has reiterated that adherence to instructions is compulsory for all candidates. Candidates are advised to carefully read all exam-day guidelines mentioned on the admit card to avoid unnecessary penalties.
