JEE Main 2026 Withheld Results: Key Details and Reasons
The withholding of results is a precautionary step taken by NTA to ensure fairness in the examination process. It does not automatically confirm guilt but indicates the need for further investigation.
- Total Results Withheld: 113 candidates
- Reason: Unfair means and document discrepancies
- Conducting Authority: National Testing Agency (NTA)
Unfair means may include suspicious exam behaviour, impersonation, or use of prohibited materials, while discrepancies often relate to identity or document mismatches.
What ‘Unfair Means’ Means in JEE Main 2026
The term “unfair means” refers to any activity that violates exam rules or provides an unfair advantage to a candidate.
Common examples include:
- Copying or communicating during the exam
- Use of electronic devices or unauthorised material
- Impersonation or proxy test-taking
- Suspicious answer patterns
Such cases are flagged through strict monitoring systems and verification processes used during the exam.

Apart from unfair means, some results were withheld due to inconsistencies in candidate details. These discrepancies may arise during identity verification.
- Mismatch in photograph or biometric data
- Incorrect personal details in application
- Issues during document verification
Candidates flagged under such cases are required to undergo further scrutiny before results are finalised.
What Happens Next for Affected Candidates in JEE Main 2026?

- Cases reviewed by an expert committee
- Candidates may be asked to provide clarification
