The National Testing Agency (NTA) concluded the JEE Main Session 1 Registration 2026 on November 27, 2025, recording the highest ever registration in history. Around 14.5 lakh candidates registered for JEE Main 2026 Session 1, up from 13,11,544 in 2025. This surge is expected to increase competition and could push the cutoff percentile higher for admissions to top engineering colleges.
The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam will be held between January 21 and 30, 2026, while Session 2 is scheduled from April 2 to 9, 2026. The final official statistics on registrations and attendance will be released with the results.
Expected JEE Main Session 1 Cutoff 2026
Based on the record registration and previous trends, the expected cutoff percentiles for JEE Main 2026 are as follows:
Category | JEE Main Session 1 Cutoff 2025 | Expected Cutoff 2026 |
General | 93.1 | 93.5–94 |
EWS | 80.38 | 82+ |
OBC | 79.4 | 81+ |
SC | 61.15 | 61–62 |
ST | 47.9 | 48 |
Factors Affecting JEE Main 2026 Cutoff
- Number of Candidates: Higher registrations increase competition, potentially raising cutoffs.
- Exam Difficulty: NTA uses normalization across shifts, so question paper difficulty affects the percentile.
- Previous Year Trends: Historical data indicates cutoffs rise when registrations increase significantly.
Candidates are advised to focus on preparation and attempt to score above the expected cutoff to secure eligibility for JEE Advanced 2026 and admission into top engineering institutes.
