The JEE Main 2026 January 28 session was held in two shifts for BE/BTech entrance, with students reporting a mix of moderate and challenging questions. Memory-based answer keys and solutions have been shared by various institutes, and reactions reflect mixed views on subject difficulty.
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2026 paper held on 28 January 2026 was reviewed through memory-based questions, answer key solutions, and feedback from candidates across both Shift 1 (morning) and Shift 2 (afternoon) sittings. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the exam for engineering aspirants seeking BE/BTech admissions.
JEE Main 2026 Jan 28: Overall Difficulty and Subject-Wise Review
Students and coaching institutes indicated that the January 28 exam ranged from moderate to difficult, with particular challenges in Mathematics.
- Mathematics: Across both shifts, this section was frequently described as lengthy and calculation-intensive, making time management crucial for many candidates. Topics like Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Algebra, and Vectors featured prominently in questions that required deep problem-solving and careful work.
- Physics: Most examinees reported moderate difficulty in Physics, with questions touching on Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Modern Physics and Thermodynamics that tested conceptual understanding rather than straightforward recall.
- Chemistry: Many candidates described the Chemistry section as easy to moderate, praising its balanced coverage of Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry and relative manageability within the exam duration.
The Morning Shift (Shift 1) was widely termed moderately tough, especially due to Mathematics being demanding, while Physics and Chemistry were slightly more accessible. In contrast, most reports described the Afternoon Shift (Shift 2) as moderate overall, albeit with similar subject-wise trends.
JEE Main 2026 Memory-Based Answer Key & Solutions Release
Following the conclusion of the exam, several coaching centres began sharing memory-based answer keys and solution PDFs for Shift 1 and Shift 2. These answer key compilations are based on candidate recall and expert interpretation and help students estimate their probable scores before the official key is released by the NTA. The unofficial answer keys include solutions for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics questions, allowing students to cross-check their answers and get a sense of performance ahead of result announcements. It is expected that official answer keys will be made available soon, after which a challenge window will open for students to dispute any discrepancies.
JEE Main Student Reactions and Feedback
Reactions from candidates who appeared on 28 January highlighted a mixed response:
- Many students appreciated the balanced nature of questions in Physics and Chemistry but noted that Mathematics took more time than expected, making it harder to attempt all questions within the given duration.
- Several examinees shared that a solid grasp of Class 11–12 fundamentals helped them tackle tougher questions, particularly in Physics and Chemistry.
- Others expressed concerns about time pressure due to lengthy calculations in Mathematics, which they felt affected their overall pacing strategy.
Overall, the January 28 exam trend aligns with previous JEE Main sessions, where subject-wise difficulty varied but no extreme anomalies emerged. Aspirants are now focusing on analysing answer keys to estimate their score ranges while awaiting the official result declaration.
